Save the Dates for a Great Lenten Season!

Yes, it seems like we just wrapped up our Christmas celebration a few days ago, but we are already looking towards our Lenten activities which begin the week of February 11th.  Here are a few dates to mark on your calendars to help make this year’s Lenten Season exceptional.

Burning of Palms:  Saturday, February 10th

Our annual burning of palms from last year will be held on the plaza (weather permitting) immediately following the 5:00 p.m. Mass on Saturday, February 10th.  The ashes from the palms will be used on Ash Wednesday at the 6:30 a.m., 8:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Masses. Collection baskets for your used palms will be available next Sunday, February 4th.

Lenten Adult Faith Program Begins Tuesday, February 13th

This year I will be leading a video and discussion series on The Bible and the Sacraments. Sessions will be held every Tuesday, beginning February13th for six consecutive Tuesdays from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the main church. 

The Bible and the Sacraments is unlike any other study on the Sacraments.  It looks at the basic teachings of the Church as to their meaning and origin, but it goes further.  Based upon the work of renowned theologian, Scott Hahn, it investigates the deeper mystery of the Sacraments as illuminated by the Old and New Testaments.  The program is suitable for young teens and older, and is free of charge.

Stations of the Cross Begins, Friday, February16th at 12:00 Noon

To allow our Fish Fry volunteers to attend the Stations of the Cross and free up parking spaces for the Fish Fry’s, this year we have moved the time for Stations to 12:00 noon. Stations will be celebrated every Friday during Lent.  On Good Friday, in addition to the Stations of the Cross, a reflection of the “Last Words of Christ” on the Cross will be led by Fr. John-Paul.
